- Window Management: During winter, let in easterly window coverings during the day to allow sunlight in; close them at night to keep the room cold. During summer use curtains and blinds to block heat by closing them during the day.

- Select Energy-Efficient Products: While ordering parts select those that have high energy ratings when you are upgrading your car. Then, tell your contractor that you would like fact sheets on models so that you can make comparisons.
- Check Ratings: Be sure to select the furnaces which provide the high AFUE ratings to make the best choice. Most of the ENERGY STAR® models can have AFUE higher than 90 percent. For air conditioners select models with high SEER; most ENERGY STAR models have SEER ratings of at least 14.5.
