New ductwork

Designed and installed for even airflow.

A duct system is a design, not just material. Run sizes, the number and placement of returns, how the flex is supported and how well it is insulated decide whether every room gets its share of air.

New ducts go in with new construction and additions, with a system replacement when the old ducts are failing, and in houses that were never built with room for them.

Attic ducts spend every summer afternoon in air far hotter than the house below them. The insulation level, the run sizes and how the flex is supported decide how much of the cold air's chill survives the trip.

What to expect

How a duct installation goes

A duct system is designed from the rooms: each room's share of the air sets its run size, and the return is sized so the system can breathe. You get the layout, the materials, the insulation level and the price on paper before you decide.

Runs are supported so the flex is not crushed or kinked, joints are sealed with mastic and boots are sealed to the ceiling. A full duct replacement with a system changeout typically takes two to three days.

Every register gets checked before the job is called done. A weak register means the run feeding it gets traced back toward the trunk for a kink, a loose joint or a crushed section. Our labor carries a one-year warranty on top of the manufacturer's.

Good to know

Before you call

  • Design comes from the rooms

Each room's share of the air sets its run size, and the return is sized so the system can breathe. Undersized runs and a starved return are design faults that sealing cannot fix. Read more

  • R-value, in one sentence

Higher R-value means more of the chill survives the attic. Flex duct comes in several levels, and the thin ones cost you every hot afternoon for the life of the system. Read more

  • New ducts are tested

A brand-new duct system installed with a permit is tested for leakage and verified by an independent rater before the permit is finalized. That is how you know the work is tight.

  • No room for ducts?

Mini-duct systems run flexible tubes about two inches across through joist bays and wall cavities, which is how central air goes into houses that were never built with room for ductwork. Read more

  • Sealed as it goes in

Every seam, collar and takeoff gets mastic, foil tape rated UL 181 handles the connections that suit it, and boots are sealed to the drywall from inside the house. Tight on day one is what the leakage test confirms. Read more

FAQ

Common questions

Not automatically. They get inspected with every equipment quote. If they are the right size and in decent shape, sealing them is enough. If the material is failing, the design was wrong from the start, or the layout never served part of the house, replacing them with the changeout is the time to do it. Read more
