A furnace installation done right has more steps before installation day than on it. Sizing, choosing a model that is legal to install here, the permit and a look at the ducts all come first. The swap itself is usually a day.
Size comes from the house, not from the old furnace's label. Older furnaces are very often oversized, and an oversized furnace short cycles, heats unevenly and wears out early.
Two decisions carry most of the result: the capacity, which comes from a load calculation on the house, and the venting, which decides what efficiency level the house can take. The federal furnace rule changed what can be installed, and the venting is where that shows up in a quote.
Why people call us for furnace installation
- Furnace past 20 years
- Cracked heat exchanger
- Upgrading for efficiency
- Remodel or addition
- Pairing with a new AC

$69 diagnostic, credited toward the work
- Load calculation
- Equipment options in writing
- Gas and venting to code
- Start-up and safety test
How a furnace installation goes
Sizing comes first and it comes from the house: square footage, ceiling height, windows, insulation and how leaky the house is. The old furnace's label is not the answer.
You see the equipment options in writing: efficiency level, single-stage or two-stage, and what the venting allows. The ducts and the vent get looked at, because a new furnace on leaky ducts or the wrong vent does not deliver what its label says.
Most furnace replacements are done in one day; new ductwork takes it to two or three. Combustion and airflow are checked and the furnace runs a full cycle before we leave. If a $69 diagnostic led here, it is credited toward the installation. Our labor carries a one-year warranty on top of the manufacturer's.
We repair, maintain and install these brands. Logos identify the equipment we work on and do not imply endorsement by the manufacturer.
Before you call
The seven steps, in order
Size it from the house, not the old furnace. Choose the furnace. Look at the ducts and the venting. Pull the permit and plan the test. Remove the old unit. Set and connect the new one. Start it up and test it. The steps before the swap decide the result. Read more
Why the venting drives the quote
A condensing furnace changes how the exhaust is vented and adds a condensate drain, and in an older house that work, not the furnace itself, is what moves the price. The federal rule and its date are worth understanding before you buy. Read more
What the efficiency number buys
AFUE is the share of the gas that becomes heat in the house. A Department of Energy guide puts old standing-pilot furnaces at 56 to 70 percent and condensing furnaces at 90 to 98.5. If your furnace has a pilot light you can see, most of that gain is available. Read more
Two-stage is about comfort, not the rating
What a second stage buys is even heat, lower noise and fewer cycles, not a higher AFUE number. Read more
Common questions
Annual fuel utilization efficiency. An AFUE of 90% means 90% of the energy in the gas becomes heat for the house and the rest goes up the vent. Read more
A single-stage furnace is full output or off. A two-stage furnace runs a low fire most of the time and a high fire for cold snaps. The difference is not the efficiency rating. It is how evenly the house heats, how loud the furnace is and how often it cycles. Read more
Because the furnace itself is only part of the job. Venting, duct changes, access and the efficiency level all move the price, and quotes differ in how much of that work they include. Compare what each one covers, line by line. Read more
It is worth a look. A heat pump replaces both the furnace and the air conditioner with one system. The switch changes what goes where the furnace sat and sometimes the ducts, so it starts with a visit to the house. Read more
One year on our labor, plus the manufacturer's warranty on parts and equipment.

Usually. A closet or attic furnace is replaced in place. What changes is the venting and the drain if you move to a condensing model, and sometimes the return air opening if the old one was undersized. Both are settled at the visit before the quote.
