A mini split is a heat pump without ducts: an outdoor unit, one or more indoor heads, and refrigerant lines through a small hole in the wall. Each head has its own remote and its own temperature.
We install, repair and maintain them. They suit rooms the ducts never reached, additions and conversions, and houses with no ductwork at all.
Where they disappoint, it is almost always sizing or placement: a head too big for the room, an outdoor unit boxed in where it cannot breathe, or a drain line without a slope. Those are decided on installation day, which is why the visit before the quote matters.
How a mini split works
One outdoor unit holds the compressor. A line set runs through a single small hole in the wall to each indoor head: two refrigerant lines, a communication wire and a drain hose. Each head has its own remote and its own temperature, and because the system is a heat pump the same unit heats in winter.

- Quiet operation

$69 diagnostic, credited toward the work
- Site survey and head placement
- Single or multi-zone design
- Line set routing and finish
- Condensate and disconnect tie-in

How we work on mini splits
Tell us what you have, or what you want: a new system for a room the ducts never reached, a head that is not cooling, a drip down the wall or a yearly cleaning.
For new work the room gets measured before any equipment is named. For a fault, the system is tested before anything is assumed, starting with the simple things: the remote's mode, the setpoint, a timer, the filter and the drain line.
You get a written price before any work starts. For a repair, the $69 diagnostic is credited toward the work. Installed, repaired or cleaned, the system is run and checked in both heating and cooling before we leave, and our labor carries a one-year warranty.
We repair, maintain and install these brands. Logos identify the equipment we work on and do not imply endorsement by the manufacturer.
Before you call
Sizing decides it
An oversized head hits its setpoint fast, shuts off and swings, and the room never dehumidifies. Ceiling height, an uninsulated door and west sun count more than square footage. Read more
Every head runs in one mode
On a multi-zone system all the heads share one compressor, so they all heat or all cool. Each room can have its own temperature, but a head asking for heat while the others cool will sit idle. Read more
Filters monthly, deep clean every year or two
Rinse the filters monthly during the cooling season. A professional coil and blower cleaning roughly every one to two years suits most homes, sooner near a freeway, with pets, or after a smoke season. Read more
Dripping means the drain
The head pulls moisture out of the air and a small hose carries it outside. Block the hose, tilt the head or freeze the coil and the water finds another way out, usually down the wall. Read more
Where the water goes
The head drips into a shallow pan under the coil, and a flexible drain hose runs out through the wall inside the line-set cover to a stub near the outdoor unit. If you have seen it dripping outside on a hot day, that is the system working. Read more
Common questions
A ductless heat pump. The compressor sits outside, a slim head sits on the wall inside, and refrigerant lines connect them through one small hole. It heats and cools, and it runs at partial speed instead of slamming on and off, which is why it is quiet.
Rooms the ducts do not reach: a garage conversion, a backyard unit, an addition or a house with no ductwork. Tying a space like that into the main system means long duct runs and equipment that was sized for the house without it. Read more
Yes, that is a multi-zone system. Each head has its own setpoint. The one limit: every head runs in the same mode, so it cannot heat one room while it cools another. Read more
The remote first. A real share of these calls turn out to be a head in fan or dry mode, an active timer or a bumped setpoint. After that, the filter. Refrigerant is on the list, but it is last for a reason. Read more

One year on our labor, plus the manufacturer's warranty on parts and equipment.
Yes. It is a heat pump, and our winters are mild, so a correctly sized head carries a garage conversion or a backyard unit through January. Sizing for the heating side is checked along with the cooling side before the equipment is chosen. Read more
